A statement signed by Mr. Kodua Edjekumhene, Public Relations Officer
for the Ministry said the ban is to protect human health and the national
poultry industry. It said the ban on the importation of poultry and
poultry products from Burkina Faso; Cameroon; Iran; Nigeria; Turkey
and Romania is still in force. Other countries affected by the ban
are 10 Asian countries, namely Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Laos,
Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

entry points have been instructed to confiscate and destroy products
imported from these countries. It said inspection companies have also
been advised not to issue Final Classification and Valuation Reports
(FCVRs) for poultry and poultry products being imported from these

EPA Bans Ozone-Depleting Chemicals - 01/08/05
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
has banned all imports of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFCs) manufactured refrigerants.
The Agency has also ordered a ban on other chemicals like halons used
in fire fighting and Methylchlorofluom, also used as solvent and other
materials.
Mr. Emmanuel Osae-Quansah, National Ozone
Project Coordinator of the Agency announced this stating such human-made
chemicals were damaging the ozone layer resulting in increases in skin
cancer, damage to certain crops as well as increases in carbon dioxide
concentrations. He expressed the hope that by 2010 the total consumption
of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other chemicals used in manufacturing
refrigerants ( which is an ozone-depleting substance ) would be got
rid of by the country.
