‘Project Ferroutage’ Takes Shape In Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-Dioulasso, the economic capital of Burkina Faso, inaugurated an international
receiving station on 22/01/10 as part of ‘‘Project Ferroutage’ a
project initiated by the Autonomous Port of Abidjan [PAA].The President of
Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré attended to mark its opening.
The ‘Bobo’ dry
port project, as it is known locally, cost CFA7.5 billion funded by the Chamber
of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso and
a consortium of local banks. The project, only in its first phase, offers a
fully fenced multimodal platform of 15ha with the possibility of extension.
It has a customs area and can accommodate nearly 420 trucks including those
in transit for Niger and Mali. [Abidjan.net 27/01/10]
BADEA Extends Loan Worth US$8-Million To Burkina - 17/11/08
On 16/11/08 the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa
[BADEA] signed a US$8-million loan agreement with Burkina Faso to
part finance the Koudougou-Dedougou Road Project. The project aims
at connecting the central and western region of Burkina Faso, which
are rich in their agricultural and livestock resources, to the national
network and facilitating transportation between the region and Mali.
The total project cost is estimated at US$65.12-million with other funding
agreed by the Kuwait Fund [US$
12-million], Saudi Fund [US$12-million], IDB [US$11-million], OFID [US$7-million]
and the Burkina
Government [US$15.12-million]. The project consists of the following components:
•
Civil works and ancillaries, which include the construction of an asphalt road
[130km long, 7m wide,
including two shoulders each 1.5m wide.]
•
Consultancy services for reviewing the detail study and supervision of the
execution of works.
•
Institutional Support to the Administration of Roads.
•
Project auditing
•
Acquisition of land.
The physical implementation of the project is expected to start
in the last quarter of 2009 and will end in the
last quarter of 2011. [BADEA 17/11/08]
Government Contracts Cotecna - April 2008
Inspection Company, Cotecna, has been given a 3-year contract on 28/02/08 by
the government to act as a
consultant to control all goods imported into Burkina Faso. This move is hoped
to improve the income of the
customs service and insure the imported products quality.
Customs Barriers Temporary Lowering - April 2008
As a consequence of social demonstrations and in order to reduce the impact
of international prices on local
economies [known as ‘La vie chère’], the government has
decided to temporary lower prices for importing
rice, salt, noodles, sugar, milk and powdered milk.
