OTAL assists the 8th
African Games (08/09/03)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
West African multi-modal transport operator,
OT Africa Line (OTAL) is helping to build a temporary village for the
8th African Games by transporting the steel structures that will be
used in building the village.
The African Games is a continental multi-sports event involving all
independent African countries and is held every 4 years. The 8th African
Games will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from the 4th October till 18th
October. 53 countries will participate in the games in 22 different
sports.
Booked by OTAL’s UK agent, the cargo was
loaded on 84 different containers. It was then shipped from Le Havre
to the West African port
of Lagos (Nigeria) on six separate sailings.
Rachel Bennett, OTAL's marketing manager comments:
"OTAL is very proud to have been associated
with the African Games. The idea of a 'Pan African Game' was conceived
as far back as
1920 by Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Modern Olympics. It
is a well-known competition with over 2000 athletes expected to attend
so there will certainly be something for every sports enthusiast. For
this reason the Africa Games have developed a huge following and is
viewed by millions of spectators from all over the world."
OTAL 's Weekly service makes direct calls from Le Havre at both Lagos
Apapa (12 days) and Lagos Tincan (15 days) in Nigeria.
