Basics
----------------------------------------------------------------------
These containers are designed to facilitate
the carriage of cargo in excess of the dimensions available in either
general purpose or open top containers. Suitable for heavy and bulky
semi-finished goods, as well as out of gauge cargo. Bolsters
are also known as flats or pontoons.
A bolster consists of a flat bed with no sides. Suitable
lashing points are fitted to the floor of the container.
It should be noted that no tarpaulin cover is supplied, therefore
cargo should be suitably weather protected. Bolsters are only available on the RoRo service.

Benefits:
- A 'platform' on which goods are loaded, and then
strapped or tied down.
- Especially suited to heavy loads or cargo
that needs loading
from the top or sides, such as pipes and machinery.
- Allows shipment of goods as a containerized unit rather than
as bulk goods, thus saving on costs.
