OT Africa Line
moves its operations in Antwerp (05/04/02)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OT Africa Line is to move its operations
in Antwerp from Hesse Noord Natie Terminal at Delwaide Dock (berth
702) to Churchill Dock South (berth 420) in order to increase efficiency
and provide its customers with a range of additional benefits. The
new berth, which will be used by OTAL and its sister company Delmas,
is able to handle containers, ro-ro, break bulk, project cargo and
cars. In addition, there is a multipurpose storage warehouse suitable
for cocoa covering some 64,000m2.
Vessels on OTAL's Combined and Express Service will call at Churchill
Dock South every five days on route to West Africa.
The first vessel to call at the new berth will be the
Kintampo V864 (express service) on 6 May, and the Suzanne Delmas V865
(combined service)
on 11 May.
Hesse Noord Natie Terminal, and moreover Churchill Dock
South, boasts many amenities which OTAL customers will benefit from,
among them:
-
The availability of modern warehousing and handling equipment
-
Dedicated
access for containers, meaning truck-waiting time within the terminal
is kept to the bare minimum.
-
Excellent terminal security;
there is only one entry point
-
A secure car park within the terminal
area fenced and concealed from the road
-
Full complement of handling
equipment including mobile & gantry
cranes, straddle carriers, forklift trucks, tractors, trailers...
-
First class transport links to the city of Antwerp and the hinterland
Rachel Bennett, OT Africa Line's marketing manager, comments:
" Facilities
at Churchill Dock South are excellent; there is high quality warehousing
for an array of specialist commodities as well as multipurpose
storage warehouses that we will be able to use for products such as
cocoa and coffee.
"Hesse Noord Natie was created following the
merger of Hessenatie NV and Noord Natie Terminals NV. Following this
merger, OTAL and Delmas
were offered exclusive use of one of the 22 terminals that the company
operates. Having a dedicated facility in one of the most important
ports in the world was a big pull factor for us and, in addition to
the excellent facilities and amenities that the new site offers, was
the reason OTAL decided to change the location of its port operations
in Antwerp."
Antwerp is the world's fourth largest port. Centrally
located, it boasts excellent hinterland connections and is served
by more than
300 liner
services offering 14,000 sailings each year to over 800 destinations.
