Port Infrastructure
The port of Nantes Saint Nazaire is the leading port on the Atlantic
coast. It streaches out along the 60 kms of the Loire estuary.
Thanks to a continuous development of its various activities, Port Atlantique
is now the 4th French port . The port generates about 24000 direct and non
direct jobs.It has a yearly traffic of 30 million tons.
Port Atlantique has 4 major sites having specialized terminals:
Nantes - The historic port handles about 10% of the total traffic. The main
activities are : tropical sawn timber, marine sand, grain, fertilizers, sugar.
Donges - The 7 oil tanker berths supply the second largest refinery in France

Liquified natural gas terminal
Agri-foodstuffs terminal
Multipurpose and containers terminals
Roro terminals
Saint Nazaire - The installations are dedicated to metal
and refrigerated products, grain, sunflower oil, etc. Thanks to its specific
installations , the port is
an important place for ship building and ship repairing.
The ro-ro terminal comprises two berths able to receive ro-ro
vessels carrying cargoes principally composed of vehicles (cars, trailers,
trucks).
Berth n° 1, stern ramp : receives stern-ramp vessels with a maximum lengh
of 135 metres. Permissible draught : 10 metres.
Berth n° 2, stern ramp : a multi-purpose berth on a floating plaform,
for stern-ramp or oblique ramp vessels with a maximum length of 210 metres.
Permissible draught : 11 metres.
Located at the upstream end of the container terminal, to receive oblique-ramp
vessels with a maximum lengh of 210 metres. Permissible draught : 13 metres.
General cargo and container terminal
Liner services to Africa, the Indian Ocean, the West Indies,
South America, Spain Ireland, Great Britain, Morocco and connections with
several transhipment
ports, both in France and overseas, provide services to the world's main economic
zones. Other non-containerized traffic, including timber, bagged flour and
heavy lift cargoes, is also handled as this terminal.
Coal terminal
The coal terminal permits the importation and subsequent transfer of coal
for the Electricié de France thermal power station at Cordemais.
Liquefied natural gas terminal
The Liquefied naturel gas terminal is the largest in Europe. It is used for
imports of liquefied natural gas on behalf of Gaz de France.
