Dublin Port Trade Rises In April - 19/05/10
Trading activity at Dublin Port rose for the 5th month in a row
in April. Dublin Port Company [DPC] said throughput rose 5.4%
for the month compared to a year earlier to 2.33 million tonnes.
Growth was driven by exports, which were up 13.5% on April last
year at 940,886 million tonnes, and imports were up 0.6% to 1.39
million tonnes. Unitised trade, which represents about 80% of
Dublin Port’s throughput, was 12.8% higher than in April.
It was also 11.4% ahead in the year to date compared to the same
period in 2009. DPC is confident it would come close to 28 million
tonnes of trade this year. At that level of trade Dublin Port’s
throughput will be just under 10% lower than historic high trade
levels of 2007. [IT 19/05/10]

Cork To Review Box Terminal Location - 29/01/09
Later this year, Cork hopes, again, to decide on a location for
its new box terminal, after its previous plans
were tripped by the country’s Planning Board. The anticipated
container facility at Ringaskiddy was rejected
as road and rail connections were not considered adequate. [DY
