Import Restrictions
Most French Franc Area and EU goods may be imported freely but
all other imports are subject to import licensing on a quota basis. Imports
of wheat and wheat flour and sugar require licences whatever the source. Licences
are valid for shipments within six months from date of issue but can be extended
for a further six months.
Commercial Invoices
3 invoices (for airfreight, 4); show full details and the following
declaration: "Nous certifions que les marchandises faisant l'objet de
cette fourniture sont de fabrication ……… (origin), et que
la valeur sous mentionnée est just et conforme a nos écritures." (Translation:
We hereby certify that the goods to which this invoice relates are of ……… origin,
and that the value stated is correct and in accordance with our books.) To
be signed by a director, secretary, partner, etc.
Bills of Lading
No special regulations. May be made out "to order".
Shipping marks and numbers must correspond to those on commercial invoices.
Duty
Mainly assessed at ad valorem rates calculated on cif value.
Tariff based on the Harmonized System (see Customs Nomenclatures in Terminology).

Chad Capital Remains On Alert - 13/11/08
N'Djamena is on alert as fears that rebels, who clashed with government troops
earlier in 2008, may return. Over the last few months a 3m-wide trench has
been dug around the city, encircling it on 3-sides, the R. Chari is on the
4th side.
Latest Update - 19/06/2008
Chad's army chief says his soldiers have routed rebels, stopping
their latest offensive, but the rebels say it is a strategic retreat.
Please note that all Chadian transit companies except SDV, STAT and GEODIS
have been suspended by the Minister of Finance.
The Ministry has been in control of transit operations since 13th June 2008.
New Offensive Mounted - 09/06/08
Chadian rebels have mounted a new offensive against President Idriss Deby.
Events are presently focused 700 km (440 miles) from the capital N'Djamena.
Another rebel column of up to 100 vehicles raided the town of Goz-Beida on Saturday,
fighting government troops before pulling back towards the Sudanese border. On
Sunday rebels occupied the town of Am-Dam. Government forces had now taken up
positions on the main road to N'Djamena using
tanks and heavy weapons.
The UN has told staff to have a bag ready to leave and has cancelled all UN missions
to Chad.
Chad Customs Disruptions - 09/06/08

Train Rates Increased In N'djamena Corridor
Camrail have announced an increase in prices on their train services linking
N'djamena via Douala. [Local

Chad: Services Restart to N’djamena - 05/03/08
OTAL is pleased to announce that its N’djamena corridor service is now operational
following recent political unrest in Chad. Trains are running smoothly offering
transit times of 25 days.
CTBL Service to N'djamena Suspended - 04/02/08
Due to the political instability in Chad we have suspended all CTBL cargo destined
for Ndjamena until the situation improves.
CEMAC Summit Postponed - 04/02/08 The CEMAC Summit has been postponed. The conference was due to be held in N'Djamena,
Chad on 17 March 2007. The important decisions earmarked for discussions
required all CEMAC leaders to be present and at least two Heads of State
out of the six were unable to attend [Presidents Omar Bongo Ondimba of
Gabon and Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo Brazzaville]. It is unclear whether
Chad will still host a CEMAC summit.
Chad Gets Loans - 06/01/07
China signed a series of loan, debt relief and economic cooperation agreements
worth $81 million with Chad, five months after the country restored diplomatic
ties with Beijing. The agreements were signed when Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing
visited Chad on a seven-nation African tour bringing a "new round" of
development for China-Africa relations in 2007. [China Daily 06/01/07]
